I don't believe it is very fair. We should be increasing the United States state of republicanism. This system determines a winner not by popularity within the whole nation, but with how many representatives are supporting the candidates chosen. How can we the people, who are all equal, vote and be viewed unevenly as states.

I do not think the system of the electoral college is fair. With 48 of the 50 states using a winner-take-all system, the electoral college allows candidates who have not achieved the popular vote, to become President of the United States regardless. This situation is one that I believe is harmful and far less than ideal. It is made worse by the fact that the members of the electoral college in any given presidential election do not have to vote the same way as the people they supposedly represent or even in the way they themselves pledged they would. To me, the system as it exists today, degrades the very concept and being of a “government by the people.” In addition to being ideologically harmful, I also do not think it is necessary. The popular vote is counted in any case, so why not let those results be the determiner? It is however, far preferable in my opinion, to one of the alternatives considered by the Founding Fathers: election of the president by Congress. This is why they included provisions for the electoral college in the Constitution, which is also why getting rid of the system would be both difficult and unlikely.

The Electoral College is a group of persons chosen in each stat and the district of Columbia every four year who make a formal selection of the President and Vice President. I do not think that this is a fair process for electing the President and Vice President because I believe that the people should know who they are really voting for, therefore, the people should be the ones able to select the candidates, not a group of people whose ideas might differ from yours about what you would like your future President to pocess.

I strongly agree with Taylor. I believe that the people should be the voice in choosing the President. If the representatives are determining who wins the Presidency then the people's opinions may not be considered. I think it is very important for professionals to have a say in what is going on, but on the other hand it is not fair for them to be controlling it all.

I don't think this system is fair. It keeps the people from directly choosing the president. Instead representatives who may not share the same views as you are putting the president in office. Ron Paul for president.

That's not fair; an election shouldn't be run that way. American citizen should get their say on what president they want, and they should all be heard. The entire election can’t be decided by a few hundred selected officials alone.
